Leon and Betsy Wolper


Leon, a native Charlestonian and graduate of the High School of Charleston was employed for most of his life at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. During World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Navy and saw action in the Pacific Theater aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Richard P. Leary. His wife, Betsy, grew up in North Charleston and attended Baptist College, now Charleston Southern University. She is currently a teacher with Charleston County Schools. An active member of Synagogue Emanu-El, as is Leon, Betsy is a member of the synagogue’s sisterhood and a member of Haddassah.
