Sam Greene

Sam Greene was born in a small town in Poland and was married in Warsaw in June of 1939, right before the start of World War II. He and his wife managed to survive the war, but most of their family did not. In 1948, they came to the United States to start their lives over again.

Sam and his wife came to Charleston where they had cousins. Starting small, with a pack on his back, Sam eventually created a successful furniture business which helped support his wife and four children. The Greene’s were always strong believers in education – Jewish and secular, which is why Sam says, he is “so proud to be a supporter of Jewish Studies; it gives me great joy to give back to the community and people who have been so good to me.”
